What is Workflow? Workflow has been defined as the automation of a business process in which documents, information or tasks are passed from one participant(s) to another for action, according to a set of procedural rules. A workflow is made up of many functions and activities such as a review process, task lists, notifications, alerts/triggers, reminders, context sensitive tasks, an approval process, status/tracking, due dates and reporting.
Workflow is normally comprised of a series of logical steps called a hierarchy that define a business process. Each step contains a task to be completed and the participants that will perform the task. The task could be items such as a review assignment, an approval process, or a request to update a document. Some tasks within a workflow hierarchy, such as a simple email notification, can be automated and require no participants.
The PureSCM predefined workflows provide a powerful, and seamless process to implement workflows that support HR activities, Change Management, Incident Management, Problem Management and many other functions. The advantage of a predefined workflow is that users can immediately deploy them by simply tweaking the inputs required for the workflow: Notification Groups, Approvers etc.
PureSCM can also incorporate third party systems in the workflow definitions too. For example, any system that provides a WSDL endpoint or any system/data that can be accessed through the command line where CAWF runs. This type of integration dovetails nicely with CA Service Management products like Service Catalog and Service Accounting.
Further more as clients begin to leverage the power of the CA Workflow Engine our organization provides custom development of Workflow definitions, these services can be performed by our highly trained and experience team in our office or at client locations as required. Custom Workflow development
The process starts with your organization creating a business process description in Visio (step 1). Once this is done, the process description is documented and sent over to PureSCM. (Step 2) Once we receive the process definition our team will start building the workflow, this is an iterative process where we receive validation from your organization. (Step 3) we export the workflow definition and send to your team to import into the CA Workflow IDE. These definitions are fully documented and supported.
